Members of the East Marshall Middle School Battle of the Books competed on Tuesday, March 30th at AEA 267 in Cedar Falls. Students read 40 selected works of fiction for young adults, including Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games. Competition included an 80-question written exam over the novels. Students worked together to determine to answer the questions for their team. East Marshall's team placed in the top 10, at 8th place in overall competition.

Students also heard from Iowa author Eileen Boggess, author of Mia the Meek, Mia the Melodramatic and Mia the Magnificent. Mrs. Boggess discussed the writing process and answered questions about the craft of writing, revising, and publishing.
